Making successful EURO 2024 bets will be difficult. A tournament as important as this often throws surprise results into the works. After three group stage games, they will eliminate eight teams from the competition. That means many soccer bets will be out the window before the knockout stage.

Only once in the past ten attempts has the winning team played on home soil. In three of the most recent finals, the team playing on home turf has lost the final. That includes the two most recent Euros between Italy and England plus Portugal and France. Both France and England played on home turf but lost the last game. That does not bode well for Germany, who wants their first UEFA European Competition win since 1996.

Who Qualified for the EUROs?

24 teams qualified for the Euros this year. As the host nation, Germany was enrolled automatically for the tournament, leaving 23 spots up for grabs. There were 53 teams in the qualifying stages, because of the sanctions on Russia and Germany’s host status. They split the 53 teams into ten groups, with the top two finishers securing automatic qualification into this competition.

That left three spots in the 24 total to be filled by the Euro 2024 play-offs. The losing teams entered the play-offs based on their performance in the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League. Of those 12 teams, Georgia, Ukraine, and Poland won their games and secured the last spots in this year’s competition. Georgia was the fairytale story, the only team making their debut this year.
